Top 10 Alternative Wedding Trends for 2019

Hello lovely ones! How the devil are you? I’ll be honest, I’m slightly broken!

The National Wedding Show at the NEC last weekend was a whirlwind. 3 days of talking to lovely moomins about their wedding plans, sketching out bouquet designs and taking deposits for 2019.

My poor feet still look like barges, but I’m sure I’ll get the feeling back in them soon……hopefully…

So other than the amount of chocolate I consumed, there are some stats I wanted to share with you. I made notes throughout the show, and there are some very clear Alternative Wedding trends for 2019.

Read on to find out more.

1. Pastel Rainbow

Taking over from last years full on rainbow trend – a muted version, crammed with oodles of pastel tones. Rather than sticking to 2, couples are opted for alllllll the colours!

2. Beauty and the Beast

Romantic red roses, tea pot center pieces and frock coats. What’s not to love?? My glitter rose wands are perfect for bridesmaids (big or small!) Introduce snippets of fun with my handmade shoeclips, or go full out with a Beauty and the Beast themed charm bouquet.

3. Alice in Wonderland

Oh Alice, how I love you. And so do you it seems. She remains in the top 3 and give couples so much scope to have fun with their wedding theme. 2019 will see designs based on the traditional book, but with bright touches of colour from the world of Tim Burton

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

4. Minnie Mouse / Classic Disney

I must admit I totally missed this one and hadn’t anticipated it at all. I spoke to lots of brides who want a Disney wedding, drawing inspiration from the early films, drawings and characters. I love it!

5. Marvel

Ever present in the top 10, but tacking a dive from number 2 to mid way in the chart. Hugely popular with grooms, the Marvel Universe offers the chance for individuality, fun and colour. Great for buttonholes which start from £10. Bargain. Shoeclips are a fun way to go, perfect for hen do’s as well as skipping down the aisle.

6. Tim Burton / Nightmare Before Christmas

Simply meant to be….and I love it. You all know that this is my fave film, and the appeal of Jack and Sally never grows old. A whole new generation are discovering the delights of Tim Burton, and not just for Halloween weddings. His design inspiration is perfect for quirky circus weddings too. (Shout out to my Greatest Show on Earth bride!!)

7. Literature

I love reading, and I love book worms. I had lots of lovely chats with bibliophiles (yes, I googled the spelling.) As ever, I would recommend using printed extracts rather than hacking into your favourite read! As I print my own designs in house, you can have any colour paper you want. I particularly like using sepia/aged paper like the Harry Potter Marauders’ map. The wizarding world offers lots of scope to personalise your wedding, from invites, to charm bouquets and Remembrall favours. I do solemnly swear I am up to no good!

8. Rockabilly

Popping back into the top ten for 2019, the 1950’s, jive and rockabilly. This theme always results in a fun, laid back wedding. Stick to the traditional colours or red, black and white and you can’t go wrong. If that scares you a little, add in a bit of sky blue to soften the look. Include iconic rockabilly touches like swallows, cherries, anchors – perfect for invite designs. For more Rockabilly Wedding inspo, check out my blog series:

9. Rainbow

Awww I love a rainbow wedding. They come is all shapes and sizes, and they’re always packed full of joy and love. You can mix the hues up for a riot of colour, or dress each bridesmaid in their own tone. The possibilities really are endless with this theme.

10. Victoriana / Steam Punk

Sneaking into the top ten, steampunk/Victoriana isn’t for the faint hearted. If you choses this theme you have to fully commit and really go for it. And why the chuff wouldn’t you?? Lace up boots and corsets, I love it!

Right, I’m off for a well-deserved rest. Thank you all for stopping by for a natter. I really do have the best job in the world. 2019 is booking up fast. If you want my services (oo-eer) a £50 deposit will secure your spot.

p.s. for those of you who were wondering:

  • 1 bag of giant buttons
  • 1 Green & Blacks milk chocolate bar
  • a Twirl
  • a block of Dairy Milk
  • a bag of Chocolate covered nuts.
